Subject(s): Dissertation note: Masters Theses (MAN) - Nursing. Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2025. Abstract: First aid is a vital life-saving skill, especially in schools where teachers often act as first responders during student emergencies. This quantitative study assessed the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) in basic first aid among public secondary school teachers in Virac, Catanduanes. Using a descriptive-correlational design, data were collected from 321 teachers across seven public schools through a self-made questionnaire. Statistical tools, including percentage, weighted mean, multiple linear regression, and t-test, were used for data analysis. Findings revealed that the majority of the respondents are female, married, and have earned master's degree units. Notably, most are between 31 and 35 years old, have been teaching for 6 to 10 years, and have not attended relevant workshops or training in first aid. The public secondary school teachers in Virac, Catanduanes are slightly knowledgeable in understanding the basic principles of first aid, exhibit a positive attitude that it is important for teachers to have basic first aid knowledge, but rarely practice basic first aid. The study further revealed that clear first aid guidelines and school policies requiring regular drills were identified as key factors influencing teachers' emergency response. Attending first aid workshops or training significantly predicted KAP levels. However, demographic factors such as age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, and work experience had no significant impact. Based on these findings, a proposed intervention plan seeks to enhance teachers' KAP in basic first aid by addressing these influencing factors, ultimately strengthening emergency preparedness in schools.
