Summary: "The emergence of an enterprise culture and entrepreneurial economy has led to the rapid development of theories, policies and practices in the field of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs, on the other hand, are quick to see possibilities for achievement. They are not blinded, as managers in large, staid organisations often are, by the ingrown culture in which they are embedded. Entrepreneur are in terms of his function. The goals of any entrepreneur must be clear. Either she is involved in an economic activity to generate income or a social welfare activity to occupy people. We will be dealing only with aspects of an economic activity having a capital often lakhs and less and called a small-scale industry, or a "tiny" industry with a capital of less than one lakh. The prime purpose of running any economic activity is to make money. Money is the yard stick. An enterprise must be tuned to make money, the more the better as surplus makes the entrepreneur competitive. Management support to the small enterprise sector covers the whole range of issues from identification/selection of entrepreneurs, initial management training, support through extension services and functional support to strengthening of small enterprise development agencies and development of national policies on promotion of small enterprises. Small businesses often face a variety of problems related to their size. A frequent cause of bankruptcy is under capitalization. This is often a result of poor planning rather than economic conditions-itis common rule of thumb that the entrepreneur should have access to a sum of money at least equal to the projected revenue for the first year of business in addition to his anticipated expenses. Entrepreneurship and therefore "the entrepreneur", is at the core of what makes an enterprise succeeds, whether you call it an entrepreneurial firm, a small business, a family business, a home-based business, or a new business"-- Back cover.
