520 _a"In mathematics, and more specifically in graph theory, a graph is a structure amounting to a set of objects in which some pairs of the objects are in some sense "related". The objects correspond to mathematical abstractions called vertices (also called nodes or points) and each of the related pairs of vertices is called an edge (also called link or line). Typically, a graph is depicted in diagrammatic form as a set of dots or circles for the vertices, joined by lines or curves for the edges. Graphs are one of the objects of study in discrete mathematics. A function is something that associates each element of a set with an element of another set(which may or may not be the same as the first set). The concept of function appears quite often even in nontechnical contexts. For example, a social security number uniquely identifies the person, the income tax rate varies depending on the income, the final letter grade for a course is often determined by test and exam scores, homeworks and projects, and so on. Graph theory is a branch of mathematics concerned about how networks can be encoded and their properties measured. In transport geography most networks have an obvious spatial foundation, namely road, transit and rail networks, which tend to be defined more by their links than by their nodes. This it is not necessarily the case for all transportation networks. For instance, maritime and air networks tend to be more defined more by their nodes than by their links since links are often not clearly defined. In mathematics, the symmetric difference of two sets, also known as the disjunctive union, is the set of elements which are in either of the sets, but not in their intersection. Symmetry implies that one shape becomes exactly just like the other after we move it in any way i.e., turn, flip or slide. The word "Symmetry" comes from the Greek word which implies "to measure together". The symmetric polynomials (respectively, symmetric rational functions) can be expressed as polynomials (respectively, rational functions) in the elementary symmetric polynomials. This is called the fundamental theorem of symmetric functions. This book presents the basic principles of group theory and their applications in symmetric functions"-- Back cover.
