520 3 _aThis study aimed to assess the mental health status of the 3rd year Nursing Students of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges. The study was based on a quantitative research design. The respondents of the study were one hundred fifty-five (155) randomly selected third (3rd) year nursing students in CSPC. Findings from the study showed that majority of the respondents were found to exhibit symptoms for moderate depression, extremely severe anxiety, and normal level of stress. In terms of coping strategies, results showed that the most common coping strategy employed by the respondents is distracting oneself by doing other diversional activities (watching movies/TV, listening to music, doing school tasks, etc.). Other common strategies employed by the respondents are positive reframing, humor, and active coping. Meanwhile, the lowest utilized coping strategy is venting to others, seeking emotional social support, and substance use. Moreover, among the profile indicators of age, sex, birth order, civil status, employment status of parents, and family monthly income, none of which were found to have a significant correlation with the respondents’ mental health status. On the other hand, there was a significant correlation between the mental health status of the respondents and the coping strategies they employ. The proposed plan of the study was formulated towards enhancing the coping strategies employed by the nursing students of CSPC. It includes the promotion of various activities, strategies and programs that can be implemented that are beneficial to the students in order to have better mental health outcomes and be able to cope with mental health challenges effectively.
