520 3 _aThis correlational study was undertaken to determine the relationship between self-concept and academic achievement of Grade V pupils in the Districts of San Miguel North and South. The self-concept of Grade V pupils was described through the subscales general self, social self, home self and academic self, while academic achievement was described through the subject areas Filipino, English, Science and Health, Mathematics and Makabayan. A total of 638 pupils were involved in the study. The Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory was used to record the self-concept of the participants. Among the four subscales, general self had the highest mean rating while social self had the lowest. Among the subject areas, Makabayan had the highest mean rating. As to which subscale of self-concept contributed to the academic achievement of pupils, general self, home self, academic self and social self denoted low correlation. There is also no significant relationship between the combined factors of self-concept and academic achievement. Of the four subscales, academic self showed significant correlation which meant that this scale contributed to academic achievement of pupils but only in Filipino subject, The study recommends an intervention plan to further develop and enhance the socialization skills of pupils. achievement.
