520 _a"Computer science is a discipline that's been growing in leaps over the recent few years. Nowadays, the technology applies to nearly every aspect of human life including media and communications. In fact, it has improved multimedia systems and made it accessible to nearly everyone. Computer Multimedia is defined as digital technologies that present information in multiple media formats, for instance, online TV platforms like Hulu and Netflix provide audio and video content to viewers while Amazon Kindle Books has text, pictures, and graphs for their audience. Generally, information displayed through digital multimedia is of superior quality and capability compared to traditional media. Apart from being easier to understand, users can interact with the content according to their needs instead of just mere reading or watching. Case in point, virtual television allows you to choose the programs you want to watch from the list available. Unlike traditional TV where the programs have already been selected by the channel, and you have no say on what's displayed on the screen. Nowadays, electronic networks have allowed otherwise traditional media channels to also have digital footprints, which has significantly increased their follower base. For instance, it's possible to subscribe to newspaper or magazine issues online instead of buying the paper format which is rather bulky and inconvenient. Additionally, computers have inspired the invention of new multimedia technologies that were unheard of in the past, such as Twitter, Facebook, Linkedln, and YouTube which are currently some of the most popular social media platforms. These networks are highly interactive and allow users to connect with others instantly from anywhere around the world, so long as you have internet it's possible to communicate with anyone from whichever country in the globe. Furthermore, with devices such as smartphones and tablets, multimedia technologies have become more portable and accessible to everyone. It's now practical to access your favorite multimedia content digitally from the comfort of your device, it's not a must to be next to a stationary PC or computer in order to enjoy digital multimedia. Computers have also simplified business procedures and made it easier for investors to manage their day-to-day operations more efficiently. For instance, through videoconferencing technology, companies can host live audiovisual meetings with their staff or clients from whichever location without worrying about logistics. This saves on operation costs apart from making the business more accessible to stakeholders. Additionally, through email technology, you can send messages instantly without having to worry about buying papers, printing, and dispatching them manually to receivers like the past. For the health sector, multimedia technology is allowing physicians to attend to clients remotely without them having to physically visit the clinic for treatment. In some developed countries, doctors are even performing surgery using computer-assisted programs that run on multimedia system, which are proving to be more efficient and risk-free than manual operations. With rapid advancements in computer science and multimedia, the future looks even brighter for this field." -- Back cover
