Dissertation note: Undergraduate Theses (BSECE) - Electronics Engineering. Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2024. Abstract: This study aimed to design, fabricate, develop, and test an automated indoor hydroponics tower for lettuce plant cultivation, focusing on efficient vertical space utilization, soilless hydroponic systems, and controlled environmental factors. A comprehensive methodology was employed, encompassing planning, design, fabrication, testing, and evaluation. The resulting automated system integrated various electrical and electronic components, alongside a hydroponics tower comprising a megabox container, styro cups with coco fiber, PVC pipe, LED grow lights, a submersible water pump, and a motor. Trials revealed initial challenges with sensor accuracy, which were rectified through adjustments and subsequent trials. The TDS meter demonstrated high accuracy with an average error of 0.74%, while the pH sensor exhibited 4.92% average error. Light intensity and moisture sensors showed 6.81% and 3.95% average errors, respectively. Conclusions highlighted the system's capability to cultivate lettuce without soil, using locally available materials, particularly coco fiber. The system's operation proved effective, with the TDS meter maintaining nutrient levels, stable pH levels promoting plant health, controlled light intensity supporting growth, and optimal root moisture enhancing overall performance.
