Abstract: Myocardial infarction remains the leading cause of mortality associated with coronary artery disease, including ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI). This quantitative study evaluated the awareness of emergency room nurses regarding STEMI at Alhada Armed Forces Hospital, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational design, data were gathered from 100 emergency room nurses through a self-made questionnaire. Statistical tools such as percentage, weighted mean, chi-square, and t-test were employed for data analysis. Findings revealed that most emergency room nurses were female, of Filipino nationality, Bachelor of Science in Nursing holders, aged 30 to 35 years, with 1 to 5 years of work experience, and certified in Basic Life Support. The nurses demonstrated sufficient knowledge of the initial steps in managing suspected STEMI cases but showed moderate awareness in interpreting electrocardiograms (ECGs) with ST elevation and initiating timely interventions. The study also highlighted perceived challenges in promptly identifying and managing STEMI, including communication barriers and delays in coordinating with healthcare teams. Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between nurses' profiles such as age, sex, nationality, education, experience, and training and their awareness of STEMI. However, a significant relationship was found between nurses' level of awareness and the challenges they encountered in managing STEMI cases. Based on the results, a policy recommendation is proposed to enhance emergency room nurses' competency in interpreting ECGs with ST elevation and initiating timely interventions, ultimately improving patient outcomes in STEMI cases.
