Summary: "Ethics practitioners will agree with the above "mantra." Experience and knowledge of ethical codes have revealed that healthcare practice is subject to certain ethical limitations. The discussions in Health Ethics revolve around the application of fundamental ethical principles, theories, and ethical criteria on the different ethical issues and themes that nurses will encounter in the practice of the profession as one renders care for the patient from womb to tomb. The course aims to help the student nurses acquire knowledge on ethical criteria to be used in their evaluation to practice sound judgment and consequently develop ethical decision-making. Ethical norms must always guide the practice of the profession. The ethical practice of Nursing is imperative since nursing is enormously becoming valuable in preserving and safeguarding people's lives and physical well-being. Being a frontline in active patient care, nurses will have to master the ethical criteria regarding ethical questions and weigh dilemmas arising from their work. Professional ethics (deontology) dictates that any professional work performed by human beings is subject to general ethical criteria. One is to work well, by human beings is subject to h other colleagues. And if competently, responsibly, loyally, and in solidarity concrete ethical problems arise while at work, one must be knowledgeable and decision-making. The practice of Ethical decision-making will require a high level of competence and a deeply rooted sense of ethics. Only those who have received a good education and sound ethical criteria can confidently deal with controversial issues in ethics, decide appropriately, and act properly"-- Preface of the book.
