Dissertation note: Undergraduate Theses (BSCE) - Civil Engineering. Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2022. Abstract: This study was conducted to propose an architectural and structural design of footbridge to replace the existing hanging bridge connecting Barangay San Ramon and Sta. Justina, Buhi, Camarines Sur. It also aimed to assess the current status of the bridge in terms of type of materials, dimensions, elevations, and maintenance activity. Descriptive method and developmental method were utilized in this study. The existing bridge was composed of steel cables, timber, and some concrete. In terms of its physical aspect, the hanging bridge was found to have defects due to its old age. It has a span of 32.60 meters; deck width of 0.65 meters; cable railing height of 1.10 meters; and deck to NGL elevation of 0.96 meters. The interview with the local residents revealed that the bridge users prefer the use of steel materials on a new design and to add railings also made of steel. Thus, the proposed design adjusted the said values for added safety and convenience. It applied the Warren Type truss design in its frame using 4-inch and 2-inch GI Pipes and a 6.0 mm thick steel deck. The new deck elevation set to be 2.20 meters above NGL while its floor width is 1.40 meters. It also included additional safety features such as cyclone wires and steel railings on each side. The estimated total cost of the proposed footbridge design was P2,612,087.80 The structural design was based on the DPWH Design Guidelines and AISC 2016. Based from the results and discussions, the researchers conclude that the new design is structurally safe because it passed the LRFD test on STAAD Pro. The researchers recommend conduct soil investigation prior to its implementation to the local government units.
