Dissertation note: Undergraduate Theses (BSIT) - Information Technology. Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2024. Abstract: Security has become an essential need for individuals all over the world, as technol- ogy’s integration to daily life becomes deeply embedded, ensuring robust security has be- come a critical necessity. Manual key, in particular face challenges in terms of ensuring security in laboratories. This study investigates the development and integration of a facial recognition-based smart door lock system aimed at improving security and access manage- ment at the Camarines Sur Polytechnic College - College of Computer Studies Open labo- ratory. By utilizing the Haar Cascade algorithm alongside OpenCV and Raspberry Pi, the system integrates facial recognition technology with RFID for automated attendance mon- itoring. This combined method guarantees accurate authentication while tackling prevalent security issues like unauthorized access and the risk of lost keys. The study also part- nered with a web-based platform to facilitate user management and real-time oversight, creating a secure, efficient, and user-friendly setting for faculty members. Additionally, an Agile methodology was developed to support ongoing enhancements grounded in user feedback and testing. By integrating advanced biometric technology with efficient man- agement tools, this innovation not only enhances laboratory security but also exemplifies the potential for smart access systems in educational environments.
