Dissertation note: Undergraduate Theses (ABELS) - English Language Studies. Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2025. Abstract: This qualitative study analyzes disaster preparedness signage in Nabua, Iriga City, and Balatan through linguistic landscape and semiotic lenses, using 15 signages collected from the field and online sources. Nabua is home to the students of the Camarines Sur Polytechnic College. It is the most populated town in Rinconada, while Iriga City is the only declared city within Rinconada with the highest population, and Balatan is a coastal town that is highly vulnerable to landslides and sea-related calamities. Thus, there is limited prior research in the Rinconada area, even in the Bicol region. Due to this, the linguistic landscape theory of Shohamy and Gorter (2009) and the theory of Saussure's concept of signs, signifiers, and signified were used as a framework to imply the signage's relation to uncovering the intended meaning in the context of linguistic and cultural understanding of disaster preparedness signage across Rinconada. However, the same data revealed that the signage examined incorporated multilingualism, which serves as a representation that the community was highly diverse in linguistic assets. It has been concluded that the languages utilized are dependent on the language, considering their geographical location.
