Dissertation note: Undergraduate Thesis (ABELS) - English Language Studies. Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2023. Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the specific conversational style that appears in Philippine gossip vlogs, particularly its mode, either High Involvement (HI) or High Considerateness (HC). Also, this study responds to the following two main research questions: (1) What are the conversational styles of gossip in Philippine vlogs along with: a. Topic; b. Pacing; c. Narrative Strategies; d. Expressive Paralinguistics; and (2) What is the dominant mode of conversational style of the gossips in the Philippine vlogs? The researchers used content analysis as the research design to interpret and analyze the gathered data through transcription using Tannen's transcription method (Tannen, 2005). It turns out that the speakers' dominant mode in Philippine gossip vlogs' is High Considerateness (HC) because the three features are not in frequent use: the Topics, Pacing, and Narratives Strategies. This concludes that the listeners/co-speakers cannot match the enthusiasm portrayed by the speakers. However, the most used feature in the conversation is expressive paralinguistic because of the usual application of contentless words uttered, pitch, and stress. Overall, the study was able to explicate several key factors that motivate the utilization of the conversational style features, the similarities, and differences of the chosen gossip in Philippines vlogs.
