"Heat transfer is a process that happens in a wide variety of natural and artificial systems. The spatial fluctuation of temperature that occurs within a medium or media that are adjacent to one another is what causes heat transfer. This temperature variation can result in the storage of thermal energy, the conversion of thermal energy to or from other kinds of energy and work, or the exchange of thermal energy with the surrounding environment. The focus of the engineering discipline of heat transfer is the application of novel approaches to the fundamentals of thermal physics in the context of resolving pertinent technical issues.
This introductory textbook aims to provide undergraduate engineering students with the knowledge (principles, materials, and applications) they need to understand and analyze the heat transfer problems they will likely encounter in practice. The target audience for this book is students majoring in engineering. In this book, the approach used is to examine heat transfer problems (in the quest for novel and optimal solutions), and engineering analyses, in addition to introducing the fundamentals and the analytical methods employed in getting answers. Even though the treatment is primarily analytical, empiricism is acknowledged because it contributes to studying more complex geometries, fluid flow conditions, and other complexities best dealt with empirically. This is the case even though the treatment is primarily analytical.
Students can comprehend and explain their thoughts on various issues through descriptive and analytical conversations used in class"-- Back cover.
