The impact of clinical experiences on empathy development was determined by a study at Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC), Nabua, Camarines Sur, involving 155 fourth-year student nurses. The study aimed to assess the impact of clinical experiences on empathy development, identify factors influencing this development, and explore the relationship between student profiles and the impact of clinical experiences on empathy development. A descriptive correlational research method was employed, utilizing a questionnaire checklist distributed via Google Forms as the main data-gathering tool. Statistical methods such as percentage technique, weighted mean, pearson correlation coefficient and Likert scale were used to analyze the responses. The findings indicated that majority respondents were female, aged 22, Roman Catholic, and from nuclear families. The most were first-born in their families. The student nurses strongly agreed that clinical experiences enhanced their respect and consideration for vulnerable patients (e.g., the homeless or those with alcoholism), with a 3.58 rank fifth on the affective indicators. Though, they also strongly agreed that clinical experiences sometimes led to negative psychological states like burnout and distress, affecting their patient care, with a 3.29 rank fifth in the cognitive indicators. Furthermore, strongly agreed the experiences improved their effectiveness in advocating for patients' needs, reflected by a 3.54 fifth rank in the somatic indicators. Intrinsic factors such as faith in God and prayers were found to strongly influenced on empathy development with a 3.49 first rank, while extrinsic factors like discrimination and bias were 3.33 rank first also strongly influenced. However, no significant relationships were found between empathy development and demographic indicators such as age, sex assigned at birth, religious affiliation, family structure, or birth order. These findings give valuable insights into how clinical experiences build empathy development among student nurses at CSPC and highlight the significance of considering both intrinsic and extrinsic factors in educational and clinical training programs.
