<subfield code="a">Graduating from senior high school and going to college can be a shocking transition for many students. First year students joining colleges and universities have unexplained fears, challenges and expectations about university life and education. This study determined the challenges encountered by first year nursing students of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges in transitioning from senior high school to college. The respondents of this study were delimited to five hundred seventy-eight (578) first year nursing students of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges. It answered the profile of the respondents; the challenges encountered by first year nursing students in transitioning from senior high school to college; the coping strategies adapted by first year nursing students; if there’s significant relationship between the respondent’s profile and the challenges they encounter; and the plan to minimize the challenges encountered by first year nursing students. The descriptive and inferential method was used in the study, with an electronic questionnaire as the main data gathering tool. Several statistical tools were employed to accurately quantify the response of the respondents such as the percentage technique, weighted mean, and Kendall’s coefficient of concordance. The results revealed that the age, family income, and senior high school strand are statistically significant to personal, environmental, economic, and social challenges in transitioning from senior high school to college. Whereas, the location of residence and sex is not statistically significant to personal, environmental, economic, and social challenges in transitioning from senior high school to college. The study further revealed there was a significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and the challenges encountered in terms of personal, environment, economic, and social. Overall, the findings of this study can contribute to minimize the challenges encountered by first year nursing students and to improve their coping mechanisms to have better experience in college.</subfield>
