"The study of fluid mechanics is a fascinating field with countless real-world applications, ranging from the functioning of microscopic biological systems to the propulsion of automobiles, airplanes, and spacecraft. However, fluid mechanics has traditionally been considered one of the most challenging disciplines for students studying at the undergraduate level. In earlier classes for first- and second-year students, such as physics, chemistry, and engineering mechanics, students frequently learn equations and then "plug and chug on their calculators to solve problems. However, much more is required to conduct an accurate analysis of a problem in fluid mechanics problem. Students are often required to analyze the problem, make and justify assumptions and/or approximations, apply the pertinent physical laws in their proper forms, and solve the resulting equations before ever plugging any numbers into their calculators. This can be a lengthy and time-consuming process. To solve many of the issues in fluid mechanics, you need more than just an understanding of the subject; you also need physical intuition and experience. We have high hopes that the careful explanations of ideas and the abundance of real-world examples, sketches, Figures, and photographs included in this book will bridge the gap between knowledge and the appropriate application of that information.
The field of fluid mechanics has developed to the point that its fundamental equations and approximations are well established and can be located in various publications that serve as introductions to the field. The presentation of the material in each of the books is unique and helps to differentiate them from one another. A fluid mechanics book that is easy to understand should offer the subject in a sequential order that progresses from easy to more difficult, with each chapter building upon the foundations established in earlier chapters. Even the fluid
mechanics concepts known to be the most difficult to grasp can be effectively studied with this method. Students tend to pick up new information more quickly when presented in a visual format, and fluid mechanics is a highly visual field of study. Because of this, it is necessary for a decent book on fluid mechanics to also contain high-quality diagrams, pictures, and other visual aids that assist in explaining the importance and meaning of mathematical expressions.
This book was written with students and academics in mind to fulfill their requirements in terms of content and offer them a complete understanding of fluid mechanics. It was made to make this book as accessible as possible. Those involved in education make up the bulk of its readership. We are convinced that this book will provide readers with both clarity and fresh points of view, and as a result, we hope that it will be used as a resource for academics working in a wide variety of subjects"-- Back cover.
