When involving fathers in maternity care, it is important that both internal and external barriers are identified. By identifying such barriers, a proposed plan was formulated to address them. Considering that father involvement encapsulates numerous health advantages to the childbearing mother and unborn child. The study utilized Descriptive-Correlational Method and distributed a 24-item researcher-made questionnaire among 49 first-time fathers in Barangays covered by Rural Health Unit 1 in Buhi, Camarines Sur; that is purposively selected. The Chi-Square Test of Independence was used to determine the relationship between respondents’ profile and their extent of involvement; and respondents’ profile and the barriers affecting their involvement in maternity care. Result showed that fathers are from age group of 24-28 years old, working as laborers with average monthly income of 5,000 and below, finished secondary education, who are cohabitating, and lives 2-3 km away from the Barangay Health Stations. Fathers are highly involved in the three phases of maternity care. The primary barrier encountered by fathers is long waiting time in health facilities during consultations. In addition, the profile of respondents and their extent of involvement are not significant to the three phases of maternity care. However, there is a significant relationship that exists between the respondents’ profile and their extent of involvement in terms of antepartum care. Same goes for the respondents’ profile and the barriers affecting their involvement in maternity care. Fathers can enhance their skills and awareness regarding maternal healthcare by utilizing social media. Mothers can encourage fathers to go alongside her during consultations and reassure them not to be embarrassed when going to antenatal check-ups. RHU and LGU should collaborate in implementing a program that would enhance the skills and awareness of fathers in Buhi, Camarines Sur.
