TI - Development of floodwater door barrier using kauayan-tinik (bambusa blumeana) and polyster taffeta fabric / N1 - Undergraduate Theses (BSCE) - Civil Engineering; Includes bibliographical references N2 - This study investigates the viability of utilizing treated bamboo and waterproof polyester taffeta fabric to create a Floodwater Door Barrier Device. The research encompasses the evaluation of treated bamboo properties, barrier design, performance assessment through static head leakage tests, and production cost analysis. The researchers systematically developed the floodwater door barrier, conducting bamboo specimen tests, prototype design, testing, data analysis, and cost estimation. Processed Bambusa Blumeana bamboo, assessed for water absorption and flexural strength, exhibited 30.20% water absorption and 142.85 MPa flexural strength with dimensions of 18 inches in length and 1 inch by 1 inch in width. The floodwater door barrier, designed to meet standard door dimensions, is 1 meter high, 0.8 meters wide (expandable to 1 meter wide), and 0.04 meters thick. Horizontal extension for broader door installations employs custom-made mechanisms. The barrier ensures complete water resistance with materials like polyester taffeta fabric coated in polyurethane (PU) and waterproof Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) rubber. Successful static leakage tests at 200 mm and 400 mm water depths demonstrated effectiveness, with leakages below the threshold. However, a third trial at 600 mm resulted in an average leakage of 530 ml/hour, exceeding the limit and indicating the need for further development, especially for severe floods. The Floodwater Door Barrier incurred a total project cost of Php 4631.00, covering material (Php 2894.00) and labor (Php 1737.00) expenses, presenting a cost-effective strategy with a focus on quality. Continuous monitoring is crucial to assess the barrier's effectiveness and longevity, striking a balance between affordability and efficacy. ER -
