TI - Wassup : : a low-cost spectrum analyzer for white space monitoring / N1 - Undergraduate Theses (BSECE) - Electronics Engineering; Includes bibliographic references N2 - Universal and affordable internet access, a part of the UN's Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, has been known to catalyze progress. Maximizing spectrum utilization is vital due to the limited bandwidth and increasing demand for wireless communication. However, there is a digital divide in developing countries like the Philippines due to stringent restrictions in the telco market, lack of competition, high entry barriers, and insufficient digital infrastructures. The utilization of Television White Spaces (TVWS) maximizes spectrum use and aims to connect that divide. However, commercially available spectrum analyzers that analyze spectrum availability can be costly. The "Wireless Access to Spectrum Sensing and Analysis with User Data Portability" (WASSUP) provides a portable, low-cost, and long-running solution for measuring spectrum activity and their corresponding GPS and timestamps tags to allow location and time-based spectrum analyses. The two-part system utilizes a microcontroller with an RF Explorer shield and accessory modules for 24-hour data collection. A mobile app is then used for real-time viewing, data analysis, and data extraction. WASSUP is capable of frequencies from 15 MHz 2700 MHz. Measurements were conducted simultaneously with a commercially available low-cost spectrum analyzer in five frequency bands: FM, Digital TV, LTE-700, GSM-900, and 2.4 GHz WiFi. The measurements were visually compared using Waterfall and Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF) plots, and their correlation was investigated using Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) test and Pearson Correlation Coefficient (PCC). Results showed strong agreement between WASSUP and the commercially available spectrum analyzer ER -
