Maternal healthcare plays a critical role in ensuring the well-being of both mothers and their newborns, especially among primigravida women who are more vulnerable due to their lack of experience. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of primigravida women regarding maternal healthcare services during the early stages of pregnancy in rural areas of Virac, Catanduanes. The research sought to identify factors influencing maternal health practices and propose interventions to enhance maternal healthcare in the province. Utilizing a quantitative descriptive-correlational design, the study employed total enumeration, involving 81 primigravida women residing in 34 rural barangays of Virac, Catanduanes. These respondents were identified through the Rural Health Unit (RHU) records and selected using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through a self-made, validated questionnaire covering the respondents' profile, knowledge, attitude, and practices related to maternal healthcare. Statistical tools such as weighted mean, percentage, and Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient were used to analyze the data. Results revealed that most respondents demonstrated moderate knowledge, positive attitudes, and often practiced recommended maternal healthcare behaviors. However, gaps in knowledge were observed, particularly in recognizing early signs of pregnancy complications and the recommended number of prenatal visits. A significant relationship was found between educational attainment and maternal health practices, indicating that higher education levels correlated with better health practices. The study underscores the need for targeted health education and community-based interventions to strengthen maternal healthcare knowledge and practices among primigravida women, ultimately improving maternal and neonatal outcomes in rural communities.
