TI - Bridging the digital divide through design for a remote area in Rinconada / N1 - Undergraduate Thesis (BSECE) - Electronics Engineering; Includes bibliographical references N2 - The digital divide refers to the absence or lack of internet connectivity and digital infrastructures to serve the connectivity needs of a community. This commonly occurs in areas far from the city that can be identified as remote. Barangay Divino Rostro, Buhi, Camarines Sur, is a barangay located at the side of Mt. Malinao; its topography is steep and filled with forests and trees, making the community remote and hard to reach. This barangay is facing a digital divide, mainly due to its topography, which makes it nearly impossible for internet providers to install an internet connection. Also, there is no cellular data signal because there is no presence of cell towers. The only present digital infrastructure in the area that provides internet connectivity is the nine Piso Wi-Fis units scattered across the barangay. The signals of the Piso Wi-Fis were observed and found to be inconsistent and unstable, thus giving the residents inadequate performance for their digital needs. Through multiple site visits and inspections, surveys, and interviews, the researchers have come up with a solution, designing a community network that aims to bridge the digital divide faced by the barangay residents. The researchers used the UISP Design Centre to design a communication network based on the residents' preferences and challenges, aligned to the related SDGs and DICT standards. Through simulation, the proposed design of the community network is functional and may be used to bridge the digital divide in Barangay Divino Rostro, Buhi, and Camarines Sur ER -
