Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) leading to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) requires hemodialysis (HD), which significantly impacts patients' quality of life (QoL). This study examines factors influencing QoL among hemodialysis patients in Virac, Catanduanes, focusing on demographic and clinical profiles to propose targeted interventions. A descriptive-correlational approach was used, involving 71 HD patients from Catanduanes Doctors Hospital Inc. and Eastern Bicol Medical Center.

Data were collected using a self-made questionnaire assessing physical, psychological, social, and environmental dimensions of QoL. The questionnaire was developed based on literature review and expert consultation, then validated through a pilot study. Statistical tests were applied to identify relationships between patient profiles and QoL outcomes. Findings showed that comorbidities and medical history significantly affected QoL, while dialysis duration and CKD progression had no significant impact. Patients reported overall satisfaction, but challenges related to financial stability, energy levels, and sexual well-being were noted.

The results highlight the importance of socioeconomic support and healthcare access in improving QoL for HD patients. Psychological and social factors, such as family support and mental health, were also crucial in enhancing QoL despite physical limitations. The study emphasizes the need for a holistic approach to care, including socio-economic and psychological support. Healthcare providers should prioritize patient-centered care, financial aid, and community support programs to address the multifaceted challenges of HD patients. This approach could improve QoL and healthcare satisfaction in Virac and serve as a model for other communities.
