TI - Proficiency level in shorthand writing : : a comprehensive analysis / PY - 2024///. CY - Buhi, Camarines Sur : PB - Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, N1 - Undergraduate Thesis (BSOA)- Office Administration N2 - This study analyzed shorthand writing proficiency among 130 2nd year Bachelor of Science in Office Administration (BSOA) students at Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges Buhi Campus during the 2024-2025 academic year. Using descriptive research design and weighted mean analysis, the study revealed: Demographically, respondents were 18-20 years old (80%), female (68. 46%), single. Dictation assessments showed varying proficiency levels with most students categorized as Basic, but 35 demonstrated Very Fast speeds (3 seconds). Transcription results indicated only 2 students reached Expert level, while most scored Intermediate to Basic, with 61 students categorized as Very Slow (13--15). The correlation analysis revealed significant relationships between demographic factors and shorthand writing skills. The age and sex positively correlated with transcription proficiency but negatively correlated with dictation proficiency. Civil status showed no impact. The conclusion of the study was identified that: 1.) BSOA students are predominantly young, female and single. 2.) Students demonstrated basic dictation skills, but fast speed. 3.) Students showed intermediate transcription skills but low speeds. 4.) Age and sex positively correlated with transcription proficiency, while negatively correlating with dictation proficiency and civil status showed no impact. In view of the foregoing conclusions in the study, the researchers present the following recommendations: 1.) Implement structured practice programs with daily dictations and transcription exercises. 2.) Increase dedicated shorthand instruction time and incorporate diverse teaching methods . 3.) Foster a positive learning environment emphasizing shorthand's practical value. 4.) Incorporate spelling, recitation, and transcription exercises into cvass discusssions o provide real- time practice; ER -
