This study aimed to uncover the linguistic use of netizens in the comment section of food-threshold-related news posted by news pages on social media. It specifically aimed to understand discursive practices in expressing commenters' sentiment or opinion towards relevant issues. The virality of the news and how it is perceived by Filipinos urged the study to analyze the linguistic properties involved. The study utilized Culpeper's Impoliteness Strategies to categorize and explicate impolite use of language with the aim of demeaning others. Moreover, Fairclough's Three-Dimensional Framework of Critical Discourse Analysis, limited to discursive practice, was further applied. Impoliteness strategy was integrated into CDA to further expand and support the elements of discursive practice. The findings revealed that impoliteness strategies such as positive (29.83%), sarcasm or mock (28%), negative (23.83%), and bald-on-record (18.33%) impoliteness are present, except for withhold impoliteness, which is innately inexistent in online communication. Moreover, the discursive practice analysis elucidated that such linguistic use is motivated to demean others. Furthermore, how NEDA's framing triggered negative responses from the netizens, motivating impoliteness strategies in the production and consumption of the text. Consequently, such discursive practice revealed that issues such as distrust of the government and price inflation are implied in the sentiments. The study unveiled the relation of price inflation to food insecurity, which is experienced by 44.1% of the general Filipino populace.
