137 leaves. Access to clean and safe drinking water remains a challenge in Barangay San Nicolas, Nabua, Camarines Sur, where the primary water source is vulnerable to contamination. This study designed a cost-effective water filtration system using locally available materials, including gravel, activated charcoal, fine sand, filtration sheets, and malunggay (Moringa oleifera) stems, known for their natural coagulation and antimicrobial properties. A descriptive and developmental approach was employed, involving site assessment, prototype fabrication, laboratory water testing, and cost estimation. Water samples underwent physical, chemical, and bacteriological analysis before and after filtration. Results indicated that the water source contained elevated coliform bacteria levels and failed color quality standards, making it unsafe for consumption. After filtration, water quality significantly improved, meeting the 2017 Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW) in chemical and bacteriological parameters, though color quality required further refinement. The proposed multi-layered filtration system, with sedimentation and filtration units, was estimated to cost P72,834.48, confirming its feasibility for community implementation. Findings suggest that this system is a sustainable solution for rural areas with limited access to treated water. Future research should focus on enhancing color impurity removal, optimizing durability, and scaling for barangay-wide applications.
