First responders in emergencies play a crucial role in saving lives, they bear the responsibility to keep lives on until help arrives. However, having the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitude to fulfill the role of being a responder can be challenging at times, considering not all communities are that privileged. This qualitative study aimed to explore this concern. From the demographic profiles of the respondents to skills, knowledge, and attitude to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. A plan to enhance the awareness of the respondents. Disseminated a questionnaire to 132 barangay employees. Weighted Mean, Four-Point Likert Scale, Percentage Technique, and Chi-Square were used as statistical tools to interpret the data of the study.

Results show that most of the respondents are from the age group of 33-39 married females and high school graduates, and the majority of the respondents serve as Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in their barangays. It was shown that respondents are generally aware in terms of knowledge, skills, and attitude regarding First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS). In terms of factors that affect their awareness, results show that intrinsic factors, as well as extrinsic factors, affect their awareness. Furthermore, there is a significant relationship between the demographic profile of respondents and awareness of first aid and basic life support.

Their awareness can be enhanced with the use of the studies' recommendations. Barangay officials may provide Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) with updated materials, first aid kits, and the necessary equipment to improve their efficiency in providing immediate care, The barangay may collaborate with local health organizations, the Red Cross, or government agencies to provide professional First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification programs for their personnel. Officials may allocate a budget for continuous training, equipment, and awareness programs to improve emergency response efforts and more.
