The understanding and function of metadiscourse supports the writing of different academic papers. This paper is exploratory research which attempts to discover the different metadiscourse markers being employed in the academic papers of language and non-language major students. The study was formed based on the Metadiscourse Model by Hyland (2005). A total of two-hundred (200) academic papers were taken from both majors and served as the study's corpus. Different metadiscourse markers on the papers of the students were filtered and gathered through the use of Antconc (2022) software. The analysis of the data was based on the frequencies of markers presented and through the Paired T-test. The findings of the study show that language majors have dominant usage of metadiscourse markers than the non-language majors. The result from the statistical data shows that transitional markers, frame markers, code glosses, hedges, boosters, attitude markers, and engagement markers are with high usage from the language major students. While endophoric markers, evidentials, and self-mentions were markers used of both majors without a significant difference. The general findings of this study shows that there's a significant difference among the occurrences of most markers between the language and non-language major students. Nonetheless, these differences in markers used indicate the important application of metadiscourse for students' writings ER -
