Nurses play a vital role at the forefront of our society. As a result, many aspiring nurses have entered nursing schools by accepting the dynamic challenges while pursuing this profession, seeing how the world requires nurses, and what impact could they possibly make on their patients and the healthcare system. This study aimed to determine the impact of the increase in enrollment in the nursing program at Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, Nabua Camarines Sur, the factors that motivate a student to pursue the nursing program, the significant relationship between identified variables, the difference on the responses of the randomly selected respondents, and propose a plan that could enhance the welfare of the nursing students at Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges.
The study utilized a questionnaire and was disseminated through Google Forms among 302 nursing students of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges composed of randomly selected students from level I to level III. Several statistical tools were employed to accurately quantify the response of the respondents such as percentage technique, Chi-Squared Test of Independence, and Kruskal-Wallis test.
Results showed that the respondents are from the age group of 19-21 years old, the majority were female and first-year level nursing, and have a family monthly income of below 10,000. The impact of the increase in enrollment in the nursing program in terms of faculty was interpreted as Moderately Affect. In terms of facilities, the interpretation was Moderately Affect. For the intrinsic factors that motivate a student to pursue the nursing program, it was interpreted as Greatly Affect. In terms of extrinsic factors, the interpretation was Greatly Affect. In addition, there is a significant relationship between the age of the respondents and the impact of the increase in enrollment in terms of faculty and facilities. Moreover, there is a significant difference between the responses of the three-year levels on the impact of the increase in enrollment in terms of facilities.
The welfare of nursing students can be enhanced by creating teaching materials, such as a booklet outlining various nursing theories and skills, and disseminating information to nursing students about the execution of the course syllabus for better understanding. Moreover, the use of a room plotting system and room occupancy monitoring allows the students to have equal opportunity and time to occupy rooms for class, creating a better and more conducive learning environment.
