This paper is a corpus-based and pragmatic analysis aimed at determining the political buzzwords in Philippine presidential campaign speeches in the year 2022 employed by Francisco "Isko Moreno, Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo, and Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. The corpus is made up of a total of 15 speeches, five speeches per candidate, derived from YouTube, which was transcribed and run through the software ANTCONC. Political buzzwords were examined utilizing the Speech Act Theory of Austin (1962) and Searle (1969), which served as the study's framework for analyzing the functions and meanings of political buzzwords employed in campaigns. The findings in this study revealed that there are 8 political buzzwords for Moreno, 16 for Robredo, and 5 for Marcos. These were used to promote their advocacy and gain the public's support. Moreover, assertive and commissive are also found to be the dominant speech acts, which have a perlocutionary effect in influencing the public to accept and support the candidates' political views. Given the popularity of buzzwords in the context of politics, especially during election campaigns to influence public opinion and educate voters, further research on this topic is needed to better understand their function and implication.
