Introduction to maternal and child health nursing -- Anatomy and physiology of pregnancy -- Prenatal care -- Childbirth and postpartum care -- Newborn care -- Child health and development -- Community health nursing.
"Maternal and Child Health is a critical set of health care services that aims to ensure the well-being of pregnant women, newborns, and young children. These services include preventative, curative, and rehabilitative care, which can help to promote healthy pregnancies and ensure that children are able to thrive during their early years. Maternal health is particularly important because it has far-reaching effects on society as a whole. If pregnant women do not receive the care that they need, it can have serious consequences for both themselves and their children. For example, if a pregnant woman is malnourished or does not receive proper prenatal care, her child may be born prematurely, have a low birth weight, or experience other health complications. These issues can have lasting effects on the child's development and may increase their risk for health problems later in life. Despite the importance of maternal health care, there are many challenges associated with ensuring that women receive the care they need. For example, in the United States, maternal mortality rates are higher than they should be, and many deaths associated with pregnancy are preventable. Each year, approximately 700 women die in the U.S. due to complications related to pregnancy or delivery. This is an alarming statistic, particularly given that many of these deaths could be avoided with proper care. To address these challenges, it is important to provide women with access to high-quality maternal health care services. This includes preventative care such as prenatal visits and screenings, as well as curative and rehabilitative care as needed. Women should also be encouraged to seek care as early as possible in their pregnancies, and health care providers should be trained to identify and manage any potential complications that may a rise.
The book on maternal and child health nursing provides comprehensive coverage of the various aspects of care related to the health of mothers and children. The book covers prenatal care, pregnancy and labor, care of the newborn, complications of pregnancy, and postnatal care.
