Dissertation note: Undergraduate Theses (BSCE) - Civil Engineering. Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2024. Abstract: This thesis focuses on the cement markets in the Poblacion areas of the Rinconada or Fifth District of Camarines Sur, Philippines. It analyzes market availability and comparative strength among different cement brands using descriptive and comparative research methods. The descriptive method investigates factors influencing cement supply, including inventory levels, pricing strategies, and supply chain dynamics. Through surveys and interviews with industry stakeholders, it provides a detailed understanding of the local market landscape. Simultaneously, the comparative analysis method assesses compressive and flexural strengths of concrete mixtures using Type I Portland cement. Standard Test Methods for Flexural Strength (ASTM C78) and Compressive Strength (ASTM C39) were employed with curing periods of 14 and 28 days. The study-maintained consistency in concrete mixtures with a ratio of 1:2:4 for cement, fine aggregates, and coarse aggregates, and a water-cement ratio of 0.60. The research acknowledges its limitation to the Poblacion areas of Rinconada District, Camarines Sur, and highlights regional dynamics' importance in interpreting results for broader contexts. Overall, this thesis offers valuable insights for local stakeholders into market availability and cement brands' structural performance.
