Dissertation note: Undergraduate Theses (BSCE) - Civil Engineering. Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2024. Abstract: The study designed an improved drainage system in Poblacion, Baao, Camarines Sur. It focused on the selected barangays namely San Roque, San Jose, and San Francisco due to their critical flood susceptibility in the Poblacion. The study involved determining the present condition of their drainage system which evaluated specific parameters such as the drainage network, slope, cross-sectional dimensions, discharge capacity, and siltation. The projected discharges of the drainage lines were also calculated to compare with their discharge capacities and determine the drainage lines that need improvement. The cost of the improved drainage system was derived and calculated using the Program of Works by the DPWH. The Descriptive and Developmental research methods were used, site inspections and engineering surveying were conducted to gather the needed data. Rainfall data from PAGASA and the Design Guidelines, Criteria, and Standards from DPWH were used and reviewed to come up with the improved design of the drainage system in the said barangays. The drainage system of each barangay was found to have several outfalls. The slope, cross-sectional area, discharge capacity, and siltation of the drainage lines vary. The present condition of the drainage system is ineffective in managing stormwater during heavy rainfall or typhoons. However, most drainage lines in the said barangays are sufficient in terms of their dimensions, therefore, this requires alternative or new solutions to reduce flood risk. The drainage lines with small dimensions were improved. The design of the improved drainage system has a total estimated cost of three million nine hundred sixty-nine thousand eight hundred eight pesos and twenty-five centavos (P3,969,808.25).
