"Extension is a partnership between state, federal, and county governments to provide scientific knowledge and expertise to the public. Aquaculture is a form of agriculture in which marine and freshwater fish, shellfish, algae and aquatic plants are the farmed crop. Effective extension service is one of the main aspects required for aquaculture development. Aquaculture is a high priority development area. Because of continuous deterioration of open water fisheries due to natural and man-induced changes in the fish habitats and fish populations, the Government has endeavored to increase fish production through aquaculture. Education plays a significant role in sensitizing people as it changes the knowledge, attitude and beliefs inculcated in them over generations. The aquaculture industry is moving towards more sustainable practices. Emerging technologies, such as machine learning and IoT will play a major role in fish farming automation and organism data analytics. Other advancements continue enabling precise monitoring and management to improve fish genes. The need for compiling and documenting the latest trends in information dissemination and technologies especially application of ICT tools in aquaculture extension service was long felt.
