Filipino nurses in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, face multifaceted challenges that impact their professional and personal well-being. This study aims to examine the cultural, professional, social, emotional, economic, and financial difficulties encountered by these nurses and formulate action plan to enhance their working conditions and support systems. Specifically, the study seeks to determine the demographic profile of Filipino nurses in Dubai, assess the challenges they face, analyze the coping strategies they employ, and identify significant relationships between demographic variables, challenges, and coping mechanisms.
131 responses were received out of the target sample size of 366, data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to a randomly selected sample of Filipino nurses in Dubai. The gathered data were analyzed using statistical methods to establish correlations between profile, challenges encountered, and coping strategies adopted. Findings reveal that Filipino nurses in Dubai experience significant challenges related to cultural adaptation, professional integration, financial constraints, an d emotional well-being. Language barriers, workplace discrimination, and high living costs emerged as primary concerns. Coping strategies included professional networking, financial literacy initiatives, and social support systems, yet gaps in structured mentorship and institutional advocacy were identified. Statistical analysis confirmed significant relationships between profile-such as age and years of experience-and the severity of challenges encountered. Moreover, the coping strategies employed were directly influenced by the nature of difficulties faced.
Based on the findings, this study proposes action plan to improve workplace inclusivity, financial support mechanisms, and professional development opportunities for Filipino nurses in Dubai. Strengthening pre-deployment training, mentorship programs, and labor protections will be crucial in fostering a more supportive and equitable working environment for these healthcare professionals.
