The quality of care for individuals with mental health issues is greatly influenced by family involvement. This quantitative study examined the challenges, caregiving behaviors, and coping strategies of 121 immediate caregivers of individuals with mental health problems in Virac, Catanduanes. Using a descriptive-correlational design, data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed via percentage techniques, weighted means, Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient, and Chi-square tests. Findings revealed that majority of caregivers were female, married, and Roman Catholic, and had been caregiving for over five years. Most aged 51 and older, had college education, fishermen, and had an income of Php 10,000.00 or less. The primary challenges identified were financial constraints and societal stigma, which negatively impacted caregivers' emotional well-being and caregiving effectiveness. Despite these challenges, caregivers actively ensured medication adherence, monitored behavioral changes, and provided emotional support, positively influencing recovery outcomes. Coping strategies included reliance on religious practices, social support, and engaging in creative activities. Statistical analysis revealed significant relationships between demographic factors such as sex and occupation and caregiving behaviors. Additionally, a strong correlation was found between the challenges caregivers faced and the coping mechanisms they employed. These findings highlight the need for enhanced support systems, including counseling services, family education programs, and community-based interventions. Strengthening caregiving behaviors through targeted interventions can improve both caregiver resilience and mental health outcomes for individuals receiving care. This study advocates for policy-driven programs to support families navigating the complexities of mental health caregiving in Virac, Catanduanes.
