Hydropower produces the highest energy contribution among the renewable energy sources. However, this form of power generation still faces challenges in voltage regulation. This study discussed the development of a voltage regulator for a pico-hydro generator and evaluated its performance in voltage regulation under various load conditions. The pico-hydro generator used in this study is rated at 1 KW and was installed at Nalalata Falls, which has an 8-meter head of water and a 0.04 m³/s water flow rate. The design of the voltage regulator was simulated using Proteus Professional 8 and was composed of a step-down transformer, a full-bridge rectifier, capacitive filters, L7812C and L7805C voltage regulators, resistors, and LED. During the testing, the hydro generator produces a fluctuating output voltage that ranges from 122 V to 132 V due to the varying rate of water flow. The developed voltage regulator was evaluated using the voltage regulation formula, and 9.98% was the highest recorded voltage regulation for a full load condition, while 0% was the lowest. With this result, it is concluded that the developed voltage regulator was capable of maintaining a stable DC voltage of 12V and 5V for a load with a maximum current rating of 500 mA.
