Political buzzwords and new media significantly impact political discourse by facilitating interaction between politicians and the public. However, studies often overlook public contributions, focusing instead on politicians' talk and text. Therefore, this paper aimed to highlight public opinions and experiences related to the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE). The researchers identify political buzzwords used by Filipino voters and citizens through corpus linguistics and interprets their meanings using Austin's and Searle's Speech Act Theory. Data were collected from Facebook, X (Twitter), and TikTok using specific hashtags before or the campaign period, during the election day, and after the elections, identifying 37 buzzwords in total. The study found that voters and citizens predominantly used Assertive, Directive, and Expressive speech acts, with Assertive being the most common. These speech acts reflected the public's desire for advancement and reform, dissatisfaction with political leadership, and the electoral process. The study concludes that Filipino voters and citizens seek to influence public perception and cultivate support for their political ideologies, with the ultimate goal of shaping voter preferences, criticizing, and securing acceptance of their viewpoints.
