Dissertation note: Undergraduate Theses (ABELS) - English Language Studies Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2024 Abstract: This study explores the field of stylistic analysis, which goes beyond a cursory analysis of poetry. In order to understand how poets, create their works to elicit particular emotions, communicate thematic depth, and deeply engage readers, it explores the complex layers of language expression. The study guarantees that the poems under analysis are excellent examples of modern poetic accomplishment by choosing poetry that has won the prestigious 69th Carlos Palanca Awards, namely: "Rido" by Regine Cabato, "Amorsolo's Light" by Rodrigo V. Dela Pena Jr., and "Comets" by Alvin Dela Serna Lopez. Specifically, the researchers analyzed these poems in great detail, looking at the underlying linguistic forms or deviations of the selected winning poetry in terms of (a) phonological deviation, (b) lexical deviation, and (c) semantic deviation. Also, how do these deviations contribute to the linguistic style, interpretation, and theme of the poetry? Leech's Foregrounding and Thematic theory, along with deviation devices, offered a strong analytical foundation. Enriching the textual fabric of the poems and providing readers with multiple levels of interpretation, enables a nuanced understanding of how phonological, lexical, and semantic deviations function within them. Furthermore, the study found out that phonological deviations such as alliteration, assonance, consonance, and rhyme scheme strengthen the poem's musicality by producing melody and highlighting certain words that amplified the themes; lexical deviations like affixations, alliterations, and archaism were employed to emphasize deeper meanings and artistic merits; semantic deviations including simile, metaphor, symbolism, and personification vividly enhances the imagery and broaden the thematic focus. In the end, the study emphasizes the linguistic variation's continuing importance in poetry, emphasizing how it can improve the genre's expressive as well as aesthetic qualities. By presenting its findings, the study deepens our understanding of the complexity of poetic expression and highlights the value of ongoing research in the field of stylistic analysis.
