Effects of social media usage of the bachelor of science in office administration students at Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges / Mariane M. Cangayo, Glenn D. Ponesto, Jr., and Alyssa Mhae O. Rombano

Dissertation note: Undergraduate Theses (BSOA) - Office Administration Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2024 Abstract: This research aimed to assess the effect and impact of social media usage of the Bachelor of Science in Office Administration students (BSOA) at Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC). This study included the profile of the respondents (age, sex, year level, monthly family income, and number of hours spent on social media per day), assessed the social media platforms used by the BSOA students, and analyzed the effects of social media usage of BSOA students (psychological, intellectual, emotional, and social). The respondents of this study were the one hundred forty six (146) BSOA students from second year to third year level. A quantitative method was employed, utilizing a survey questionnaire through Google Form was used as primary tool in gathering relevant data. To analyze the result of the information gathered, the weighted mean, percentage technique, percentage technique, T-test and rank ordering were used. Based on the findings of this study, it revealed that majority of the respondents belong to the of 20 21 years old, female dominated, 2nd year students, had a monthly income of below Php 9,999.00, and spent 3-4 hours on social media. Respondents commonly used social media platform is Facebook. Among the four indicators of effect of social media, social had the most significant negative impact. Significant relationship between the indicators, such as psychological, intellectual, emotional and social, and profile of the respondents were assessed. Mental well-being, social interaction, cognitive response, and feelings are were identified as crucial indicators on effects of social media usage. Recommendations would be implemented to address the identified issues, ultimately lessen the negative effects of social media usage of the BSOA students.
