Dissertation note: Undergraduate Theses (BSME) - Mechanical Engineering Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2023 Abstract: This project study focuses on developing a Compound Die Design: Portable Washer Maker - A Feasibility study to address the inconvenience and cost of obtaining flat washers. The study's objectives include developing the design of the portable washer maker, selecting suitable materials for its construction, and evaluating its operation, efficiency, and safety performance. The researchers specifically focus on manufacturing flat washers with a size corresponding to a screw/bolt diameter of 17mm and 38mm inner and outer diameter, respectively, using galvanized iron sheet material. The researchers developed a functional prototype based on hydraulic jack technology for portability. However, testing revealed limitations in punching thickness, ejection force, and metal strip cling, suggesting design improvements are necessary for optimal performance. The prototype showed less functionality but requires refinement to address design flaws and improve functionality. Recommendations include using a stronger spring, designing grooves for easier attachment handling, and optimizing punch and die features for better material flow.
