Undergradute Theses (BSME) - Mechanical Engineering Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, 2023
Includes bibliographical references.
This study was developed based on the existing coco-husk defibering machines which is to produce coco-peat and fibers. It aimed to innovate the design and mechanism of the machine and to identify the effectiveness of fiber recovery rate. To design and implement the study's output, the researchers developed a conceptual framework. It employed designs and developmental research approaches to collect to relevant data and existing studies that might be used to manufacture the machine. The Coco-husk defibering machine is made up of frame, an AC motor, gear box reducer, drum type scraper drum and conveyor chain. The device was tested and modified to ensure that the machine functioned according to the study objectives. In conclusion, the coco-husk defibering machine is functional and the average production capacity of the machine in extracting wet coarse coir is 65.36 g/min and wet and fine coir is 27.33 g/min. While the average production for dry and coarse coir is 37.12 g/min and 16.13 g/min for dry and fine coir. For wet coir it has fiber recovery of 20.87%, extraction efficiency of 69.57%, and production capacity of 46.33 g/min. For dry coir, it has fiber recovery of 26.52%, extraction efficiency of 89.51%, and production capacity of 26.625 g/min. The researchers also provided recommendations based by the series of test conducted for further improvement and research reference.``
