This study evaluated the utilization of Carica papaya leaf extract as an alternative treatment for dengue fever among selected barangays of Bato, Camarines Sur. The descriptive-correlational approach with the use of a questionnaire was utilized and distributed to 32 respondents from selected barangays of Bato, Camarines Sur, ages 12 and above. The data were analyzed using the percentage technique, the weighted mean, and Kendall's coefficient of concordance.
The results revealed that most of the respondents are 18-23 years old, male, have a family monthly income of less than ₱9,520, are mostly Roman Catholics, and are college undergraduates. The respondents among selected barangays of Bato, Camarines Sur, mostly preferred treating dengue fever with conventional medicine over traditional medicine, and of all the choices under conventional medicine, many of them preferred going to a hospital.
The study also revealed that the respondents among selected barangays of Bato, Camarines Sur, were slightly aware of the use and effectiveness of the Carica papaya leaf extract and any other alternative medicine for dengue fever compared to the Tawa-tawa leaf extract, which they were much more aware of. Moreover, profile factors like sex assigned at birth, family income per month, and religion had no bearing on the respondents' degree of awareness. The highest educational level and age, however, have a substantial impact on the respondents' level of awareness. The study recommends that the proposed plan to enhance the knowledge among respondents in the selected barangays of Bato, Camarines Sur, regarding the use of Carica papaya leaf extract for dengue fever be implemented.
