"Discrete mathematics is the branch of mathematics dealing with objects that can assume only distinct, separated values. The term "discrete mathematics" is therefore used in contrast with "continuous mathematics," which is the branch of mathematics dealing with objects that can vary smoothly (and which includes, for example, calculus). Whereas discrete object scan often be characterized by integers, continuous objects require real numbers. Set theory is the branch of mathematics that studies sets, which are collections of objects. Although any type of object can be collected into a set, set theory is applied most often to objects that are relevant to mathematics. The language of set theory can be used in the definitions of nearly all mathematical objects. This book 'Discrete Mathematics' has been written for the students who are preparing for an advance degree programme. With the background necessary for further study in theoretical computer science, it can be used either a one or a two semester course. A major future of this text is its versatility.
