Summary, etc. Hypertension, a global health challenge often termed the "silent killer," affects approximately 1.28 billion individuals worldwide, with significant prevalence in low- and middle-income countries like the Philippines. In San Isidro Village, Virac, Catanduanes, adherence to antihypertensive medication remains a critical issue. This study aimed to assess the factors influencing medication adherence among hypertensive residents in this rural setting, examine intrinsic and extrinsic factors, and develop a predictor model to enhance adherence rates.

The study employed a descriptive analytical research design, gathering data through a structured questionnaire administered to 231 hypertensive residents, selected via simple random sampling. Variables such as demographic profiles, medication adherence levels, and factors such as intrinsic and extrinsic affecting medication adherence were analyzed. Statistical tools, including percentage technique, weighted mean, factor analysis and multiple regression, were utilized to identify predictors of adherence.

Preliminary findings highlighted low to moderate levels of adherence among the residents, influenced by factors such as financial constraints, limited health literacy, reliance on traditional remedies, and inadequate healthcare access. Intrinsic factors, including motivation and beliefs about hypertension, alongside extrinsic factors like healthcare accessibility and social support, significantly affected adherence behaviors. This study underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions to improve medication adherence in rural settings. The proposed predictor model and recommendations for enhancing healthcare access and patient education are vital for reducing hypertension-related complications and improving overall health outcomes in San Isidro Village.
