This study aimed to investigate the awareness and attitudes of college students on disclosing private information on the internet at Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges- Buhi Campus and unveil essential aspects related to their demographic profiles, commonly used online platforms, and knowledge on online privacy. The study was framed based on available literature on digital privacy and security, which dictated the structure of the study and the SOP for ethical data collection. The study used a descriptive research design where survey questionnaire administered through Google forms to a total of 395 first to fourt year respondents. Result demonstrated that most of the sample were aged between 18 and 25 years, largely females, and many participants mostly connected to the internet using a smartphone. In terms of platform use for academic purposes, Google Workspace was the leading platform: TikTok and Shopee came out on top for social media and e-commerce activities, respectively. The research findings revealed a general awareness of online privacy within the participant group; however, several key practical elements were lacking-most salient, the infrequent use of VPNs on public Wi-Fi. Given this study's synthesis point, this study indicates a clear and urgent need to develop comprehensive online privacy education within the student curriculum, combined with effective awareness campanigns and collaborative efforts across disciplines to increase digital literacy levels on campus while promoting responsible online behaviors. This integrated approach is critical in preparing students to content with the detailed of a rapidly changing digital environtment ultimately bridging the information gap between their online privacy practices. |
