520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. "The scientific study of special education dates back to the beginning of the last century, and it is one of the most recently developed areas in the field of psychology and education. Even though children with exceptional needs have existed for centuries, special education programs are relatively new. In order to ensure that children with special needs grow into independent and productive individuals within the societies they live in, it is essential to identify their needs and to organize appropriate educational settings to suit those needs. Special education schools, special classrooms, and mainstream classrooms provide educational opportunities for children with special needs in a variety of settings. In this regard, the most common practice is to educate children with special needs in regular classrooms, also known as inclusive education. An inclusive education program can only succeed if educators, administrators, parents, peers with typically developed abilities and children with special needs collectively and actively participate, as well as society acceptance. These children's needs must be recognized and valued, effective administration and education needs must be organized, behavior and classroom control must be achieved, and assistive special education services must be offered." -- Back cover
