This study determined the demographic profile of the respondents as support to assess the knowledge on the causes, signs and symptoms, preventions and treatments, and further, the influence of intrinsic and extrinsic factors to the level of awareness on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). A self-administered survey was distributed to 322 Non-Healthcare Students under the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA). Through the application of quantitative and descriptive correlational research design, the views and practices on STIs were tested and the relationships correspondingly determined.
The study employed various statistical methods consisting of percentage technique, weighted mean, and four-point Likert scale. The data analysis revealed the majority of respondents were between 18-19 years old, roman catholic, and heterosexual. The awareness and practices on sexual health were found to be influenced by the factors, which a notable high awareness on STIs preventions, causes and treatments, and least aware on signs and symptoms were exhibited by the respondents. Moreover, findings further revealed the significant relationship between the respondents' profile and their level of awareness with respect to age and STI causes. Religion was also found to have a significant relationship in STI prevention. The causes, signs and symptoms, and the treatment of STIs were also significantly influenced by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. On the other hand, there was no significant relationship between the extrinsic factors and awareness on STI signs and symptoms.
