Reliable internet connectivity is crucial in the current digital era, particularly for studies, work, and access to services, making accurate monitoring tools for internet speed increasingly important. However, existing commercial tools often lack transparency, and there are a few numbers of applications designed for rural communities. The study aims to develop an internet speed application and evaluate its accuracy compared to the globally recognized Ookla Speedtest. Another objective is to gather real-time data across several barangays in Iriga City to assess the performance of the developed application. The methodology comprised designing a Flask-based web application that calculates internet speed parameters, saving data in JSON and CSV formats, and comparing the results to Ookla Speedtest. The developed application showed comparable results to Ookla in download and upload speeds, with deviations ranging from 29% to 47%. However, there is a need for improvement, as shown by the significant differences in latency results. Internet performance varied between households and times of the day due to factors including congestion and location. The results imply that a developed application can provide reliable internet performance insights with proper calibration.
